CD doesn't boot

Reported by: ebehrend@… Owned by: mwhitworth
Priority: critical Component: boot
Version: 0.2 Keywords:

Description

The LiveCD is detected by the computer and it starts to boot, sometimes showing "Loading...", and then the computer reboots and the entire process begins again into an endless loop.

I rarely have trouble with LiveCD discs, and I don't have another computer handy at the moment to test with. I did try version 0.1 also, with the same results.

Sorry to hear you're having problems. What are the specifications of your machine? (I had a report that machines with more than 4gb of RAM were having problems booting Whitix, but I thought I'd addressed that issue).

The computer is a custom-built machine, a couple of years old. Here's the basic specs:

Motherboard: MSI 975X Platinum
Intel DuoCore 2, 6600, 2.4 ghz
2GB RAM
dual SATA hard drives, configured with Intel Matrix RAID (RAID 0 + RAID 1)
PCI Express graphics, GeForce 7900GT
Soundblaster sound card
CD/DVD ROM drive, IDE
CD/DVD RW drive, IDE
Floppy
Multi-card reader

Thanks for the details. We've confirmed it's an issue related to large memory size, so I'm working on a fix. I'll attach a patch to the bug tracker and place the fix in 0.2.1.

I believe we've fixed this bug, as we've tested it on a range of memory configurations. 0.2a, the release that will contain this fix, will be uploaded by the end of this week (or slightly later).

0.2b-rc1 should contain a fix for this. Would you mind testing it? Apologies for the delay in addressing your issue.
